Which Yard for Which Job

Start With the Boat, Then the Job

Over 180 ft, or over about 34 ft of beam: the field narrows to Derecktor Florida, rated to 220 ft LOA and 40 ft beam, and Safe Harbor Rybovich in West Palm Beach with its 660-ton lift.

Up to 180 ft, and you want to pick every trade: Safe Harbor Lauderdale Marine Center's landlord model puts hundreds of approved contractors on one site, and its 485-ton lift takes yachts up to 180 ft.

Up to 150 ft, and you want one yard to run the trades: Bradford Marine, now including the former Roscioli Yachting Center, runs in-house trades with authorized contractor partners and a project manager on each job; Rolly Marine Service, family-owned since 1966, has about 150 workers on site and takes yachts of 45 to 150 ft. Cable Marine covers mechanical, paint and haul-out from two Fort Lauderdale yards.

Westports: at about 24 ft of beam for a 112 and 26 ft for a 130, they are within the published limits at Derecktor and Lauderdale Marine Center, and within the 150 ft length limit at Bradford and Rolly; confirm beam and lift weight with the yard for the specific hull. The Westport refit record shows where the Westports for sale had their work done, from Lila Cuy at Safe Harbor Rybovich in 2025 to Legacy, whose 2023 to 2024 refit names Bradford and Lauderdale Marine Center among its contractors.

The Part the Yard Does Not Do

One Scope, Comparable Quotes

Every yard on this list will quote a refit. What no yard does is write the scope for the owner, put several yards on the same specification and hold the winner to it. Quotes built on different scopes cannot be compared, and change orders are where refit budgets go.

That is the job Greg Gaus does on a managed refit: a written scope first, competing yards second, someone on the dock who has run these boats. He has managed refits on the Westport 40Ms Blue Time and Pipe Dream, the Westport 112s Blue Time and C Hunter and a Viking 92, and hauled Blue Time at Lauderdale Marine Center for her 15-year ABS survey in 2024.

Common Questions

What is the biggest yacht refit yard in Fort Lauderdale?

By lift, Derecktor Florida in Dania Beach: 900-ton and 200-ton mobile hoists for yachts up to 220 ft LOA and 40 ft beam. Safe Harbor Lauderdale Marine Center on the New River runs a 485-ton lift for up to 180 ft, and Safe Harbor Rybovich in West Palm Beach a 660-ton lift.

Can I bring my own contractors to a Fort Lauderdale yard?

At Safe Harbor Lauderdale Marine Center the model is built for it: the yard has no in-house labor and owners choose from hundreds of approved contractors on site, as reported in 2017 to 2019. Other yards, such as Bradford and Rolly, run in-house trades with partner contractors. Confirm the current policy with the yard before you plan the work.

Is Roscioli Yachting Center still open?

It is part of Bradford Marine, which bought it in October 2023. The combined Bradford site covers 38 acres with a 320-ton lift for yachts up to 150 ft.

Which yard can haul a Westport 112 or 130?

At about 24 ft of beam for a 112 and 26 ft for a 130, they are within the published limits at Derecktor and Lauderdale Marine Center, and within the 150 ft length limit at Bradford and Rolly. Westports for sale record yard work at Safe Harbor Rybovich, and name Bradford and Lauderdale Marine Center among the contractors on a 2023 to 2024 refit. Lift weight and blocking should be confirmed with the yard for the specific hull.

How do I choose a refit yard?

Start with the boat: size, beam and draft decide which lifts can take her. Then the job: a yard that self-performs suits a single project manager, an open yard suits an owner who wants to pick each trade. Then price, which only means something when every yard quotes the same written scope.

Who manages the refit once the yard is chosen?

The yard manages its own work; someone on the owner's side has to manage the scope, the change orders and the budget. That is what refit management covers, run by Greg Gaus, a captain for more than twenty years before he brokered yachts.

Choosing a yard for your refit?

Greg Gaus spent seven years selling Westports inside the builder and has closed the line from the 112 to the 164. He represents you through survey, sea trial and closing. On a brokerage purchase the commission is paid by the seller.
