What should I check before buying a used Viking? Engine hours are the number everyone looks at and the least useful on its own. What matters is the service record behind them, and the ratio of generator hours to main engine hours: a wide gap means the boat sat at the dock with everything running, which ages air conditioning, electrical and accessories far faster than fishing does. After that, tournament and outrigger equipment, electronics currency, and whether the boat was run by paid crew or by an owner.
